Colin Wilson has written on just about everything - philosophy, religion, crime, sex. Lately, he has been writing extensively about the paranormal field and alternative history. With Alien Dawn, he finally explores the UFO phenomena.

The best way to think of this book is as a personal journey - Wilson first became interested in UFOs while attending a conference (appropriately enough) on Consciousness Evolution. At the conference, he became fascinated with the accounts of contactees, or people who believe they have been contacted by aliens, and sought to learn as much as he could about the phenomena.

Like most personal journeys, Alien Dawn jumps around quite a bit, discussing what seems like disparate topics - crop circles, the riddle of the Antarctic maps, the Loch Ness Monster and LSD (or, if you're skeptical, how can these topics not be related?) Still, the patchwork quilt of fringe thinking and alternative theory is what makes the UFO field so interesting. It is just so different.

And, Alien Dawn is very different. The first part of the book focuses on famous cases and important events in UFO history. Towards the end, Wilson thoroughly investigates the contact experience and the spiritualism involved with UFOs. The final chapter discusses what Wilson calls "non-leaking" or "UFO consciousness" and how aliens are here to help us make the next big evolutionary jump to a higher level of consciousness and being.

Now, "wait a minute," you may be saying, "I don't believe in any of this!" Well, put your skepticism aside because we still recommend giving Alien Dawn a chance. Wilson is an excellent writer who is able to synthesize a complex issue into a very readable and fascinating book. With Alien Dawn, you get a lot of UFO history, ancient myths and an in-depth examination of the contactee experience.
